Background... It was decided to do something from the garden for the background since her husband did all the gardening... of course I did not think to take any photos of their garden while I was there. By the time we had decided to do Sweetie as a gift for Christmas, it was fall and the garden was pooping out! My client sent me some photos that she had taken to give me some ideas. There was one photo with a stone walk and a bed of periwinkles. The flowers and leaves were on their way out... but I had other photos of the blue variety. No problem... the blue will become pink! As I was playing with it, I decided to stylize the flowers a bit.... sort of reminds me of wall paper. It was fun to not have to make them totally realistic.

Sweetie
This is the photo for my next work progression. I took this photo of this very sweet girl named Sweetie! Could not have been more perfect! I was actually taking photos of client her horse and her little welsh corgi. But I insisted on taking a few of Sweetie, her husbands dog. She is a beautiful senior citizen! And husbands can be so hard to buy for come christmas time. Well we did end up doing a small pastel of this photos for Christmas! I added some flowers and put her on a stone path from their garden.....

Sort of tired of black! My fingers are never going to be clean again! I am trying to save the white to last... so the black does not dirty it up... luckily the whites are mostly to the right side of Thurman. That is also why I am waiting to do the stone wall last... I usual do at least one layer of the foreground before starting the subject so I can "lay" the subject on top of the back ground.

The background is pretty simple... except for the rocks! Those will be easy, but a lot of work. That will be one of the last things I work on. I do love working on long haired animals!

Here is the next installment! I really hate working from photos that have used a flash... it just flattens the image. You really need those shadows to give you depth. I always fight between what is there and what should be. I usually go with what is there... with a little more. And I also have to take the animal yellow eye out. At least that is not too hard to do.
