Finished!! I am very happy with the result... just hope the client is too! I have another good sized oil painting to do of Sara also. It is a little more formal and she is a bit more grown up in it... she is standing with her two show horses. This one ships out tomorrow. I am having to build a box around it... my regular shipping boxes are too small. If I do more of these larger pieces I will have to invest in some larger boxes.

Back to art work... Coming right along. I am happy with Sara's face. The sweater is giving me fits!! The client requested that I make it more red than fuchsia... I am just not happy with it yet. I think it is a little too busy. Have to find that happy medium between capturing the texture of the sweater but not overpowering the piece. And I have just started working on her jeans.

Wisteria, originally uploaded by debifitz.

Taking a break from art work. We had a big storm last nite after several weeks of very modest rainfall. Everything seems so much greener today. I just love this time of year! And I think wisteria has to be my favorite scent! I transplanted about a half dozen wisteria plant when we first moves here... 24 years ago. I think the electric company hates me! Even with all their trimming, we should be in wisteria heaven in a couple of days!!

My Tree

This is the live oak tree that everyone sees as they approach my house. I took this shot to show off the resurrection ferns that are so happy after last nites rain! You can see some of the wisteria growing on the edge of the woods in the back ground. It grows about 60 to 70 feet up into the trees.

Coming along... just stared working on Monarch's head. I still need to work some more on his neck and shoulder area. So far I am pleased with the way this one is turning out. I have had lots of interruptions! I should be much farther along by now... The horse shows have been pulling me over! Once there, it is hard to get away! And it is just getting so pretty here! Spring is here! I have a hard time staying inside for very long... soon it will be summer. I will be posting some pics of the wisteria soon... the scent is heavenly!!! Love this time of year!

Actually this is day 3... lots of interruptions! (We are having our shower redone before it falls through the floor! So I have been dealing with tile people and picking up materials... Fun!) But this is probably the hardest part of this piece. Or maybe I should say the most time consuming... those darn dark horses... in this case pony! Luckily my favorite dark pastels came in just in time to help me with this one! I had to replenish my stock after the last few dark horse pastels... been doing a lot of them lately!

I decided to do a progression of this pastel because it is a little larger than my usual and it is a little more complicated... and it is a fun one! Not to mention that if I did not do the progression, it would be a while before I post any art work here! I am working on suede again because of the size... I have not found anything I like better than the suede that is this big... so far any way. I am using the warm gray again... it does not seem to have the problems that I had on the "whisper" color.... it takes and seems to hold the color much better. This portrait is a combination of 4 photos... all the subject photos are from the same sitting. The background is from their farm.
