I tried to this one first on white Ampersand pastel bd.... hated it and started over on good old suede. After looking at what I had started on the pastel bd. and the finished piece on the suede, I think one of my main problems maybe the white surface. There were some aspects of working on the pastel bd. that I liked... but I could not get the richness that I like in the dog's fur. And I could not see beyond the little white flecks that were showing thru the black on the boxer. I think I liked the Sennelier le carte pastel card better. This surface was not quite as rough as the Sennelier... but I liked the quality of the color on the Sennelier. I am working on a piece of good old velour now. So far it feels good. I will post that one next...

wolf

gouache
logo art
actual size 10"X10"

Here is something new and different for me! A friend asked if I would create a logo for her veterinary practice... her last name is wolfe... so of course a wolf was a must! At first I was going to do this in pen and ink... unfortunately, my ink was a bit on the old side (did not know it could go bad!!). I opted for black and white gouache. I then used a can of compressed air and blew the paint around... I really liked the effect! I also helped her with the copy... it was a lot of fun to "shop" around for fonts! I have not done that in a long time... WAY back in my advertising days!!!

pastel on sennelier le carte pastel bd

actual size 16"X20"

this is the first one for me on sennelier le cart pastel bd... I think it came out alright... but such a change from suede and velour. Not sure if I liked working on it. It is not quite as rough as sand paper and it holds the pastel well. But it really chews them up. I have a few other papers that I still want to try and I see a velour bd. that looks interesting. I have a sheet of velour from a new company that I am trying next.
